Funding for trade exposed Safeguard facilities to reduce emissions
Round 2 of the Powering the Regions Fund – Safeguard Transformation Stream provides competitive grants to owners or operators of trade‑exposed Safeguard Mechanism facilities to reduce scope 1 emissions and support Australia’s emissions reduction targets.
Grants fund capital and related project expenditure to deliver emissions reductions at eligible facilities or via shared infrastructure.
You can apply if you:
- are an owner or operator of a trade‑exposed Safeguard Mechanism facility that is not a new or expanded coal or gas facility
- have an Australian Business Number (ABN)
- and are one of the following entities: an entity incorporated in Australia, a company limited by guarantee, or an incorporated association
You must also have an eligible project and eligible expenditure.
Projects must be completed by 31 March 2033 and the maximum project period is 60 months.
Projects must contribute to Australia’s emissions reduction targets and be delivered on‑site at any eligible facility or via shared infrastructure with practical connection to an eligible facility located in Regional Australia (including Kwinana).
Expenditure must be incurred within the project period, be a direct cost of the project, and meet the eligible expenditure guidelines.
