GO8168: Knowledge Translation and Research

The Australian Government is inviting applications through a targeted competitive process for the National Autism Strategy – Knowledge Translation and Research grant opportunity, running from July 2026 to June 2029.

This grant will continue the implementation of a dedicated knowledge translation body to bridge the gap between autism research and practice.

It will translate credible, culturally responsive research into practical tools and guidance, strengthen Autistic leadership, and foster collaborative research addressing priority gaps.

Objectives • Translate autism research into evidence-based resources. • Develop best-practice guidance for policy and services. • Increase Autistic leadership and co-production. • Implement a neurodiversity-affirming research framework.

Outcomes • Greater adoption of best practice. • Stronger partnerships and Autistic-led governance. • Scalable, culturally responsive solutions.

To be eligible you must be one of the listed invited organisations (Autism CRC ABN 55 162 632 180; La Trobe University (Olga Tennison Autism Research Centre) ABN 64 804 735 113; Griffith University (Autism Centre of Excellence) ABN 78 106 094 461; Curtin University (Curtin Autism Research Group) ABN 99 143 842 569) and have received an invitation to apply from the department.

Applications from consortia are acceptable provided a lead organisation (which must be one of the eligible entities listed) is solely accountable to the Commonwealth.

If successful, relevant personnel must maintain required checks/qualifications including Working with Vulnerable People registration (or equivalent), Working with Children checks where research involves children, compliance with the National Standards for Disability Advocacy and with Australia’s Disability Strategy 2021–2031.

Eligible organisations must comply with other legislative/policy requirements outlined in the guidelines and will be required to demonstrate these in the grant agreement.
