GO8551: WA Roadmap Implementation Fund: Training Capability and Farm Systems Program

The program was announced as part of the $5.0 million WA Roadmap Implementation Fund in support of the recommendations in the WA Sheep Industry Roadmap to 2028 (the Roadmap)(www.thefutureflock.com.au/wa-roadmap-to-2028).

The Roadmap sets out a forward-looking plan to guide Western Australia’s (WA) sheep industry transition away from live sheep exports by sea.

Developed by industry and informed by extensive consultation, it identifies key challenges and opportunities and outlines a clear, practical path for growth, innovation and sustainability.

The Roadmap outlines strategies and initiatives to address these challenges and opportunities, guiding future development, investment and collaboration.

The program targets opportunities identified in the Roadmap and supports projects that are aligned with the strategies and initiatives identified in the Roadmap against the three goals: The whole supply chain operating efficiently to optimise market value and profitability Informed, confident decision-making across the industry A vibrant, positive and collaborative industry culture This program support projects that help improve productivity and build capability across WA’s sheep industry.

Projects should align with the opportunities identified in the WA Roadmap to 2028 and may include activities including but not limited to train-the-trainer programs, peer-to-peer training for producers and supply chain participants, leadership development, demonstration sites, and relevant equipment needed to support those activities.

The objective of the program is: To assist sheep producers affected by the phase out of live sheep exports by sea to improve their capability, productivity and sustainability.

The intended outcomes of the program are: Increased confidence and productivity in farm systems as sheep producers adapt to changing markets and transition away from live sheep exports by sea.

This is a closed, non-competitive, non-application-based selection process.

Only the two invited organisations are eligible to submit a proposal: Meat & Livestock Australia Limited (ABN 39 081 678 364) and Australian Wool Innovation Limited (ABN 12 095 165 558).

Proposed activities must align with and support implementation of themes, opportunities, strategies or initiatives in the WA Sheep Industry Roadmap to 2028.

Activities must be delivered in sheep-producing areas of Western Australia, or be easily accessible to producers and supply-chain businesses in those areas.

Applicants must demonstrate that proposals do not duplicate similar activity already delivered in WA and agree to participate in a high-level coordination framework.
