GO8134: Addressing Critical Psychology Shortages – Postgraduate Psychology Incentive Program – Round 3
The Australian Government recognises the current bottlenecks in the psychology training pipeline and the impacts on workforce availability and service delivery.
Strategies are needed to reduce attrition between the number of students commencing undergraduate psychology studies and those going on to practice.
The Addressing Critical Psychology Shortages - Postgraduate Psychology Incentive Program aims to support higher education providers who have created 500 additional postgraduate psychology places over four years in courses which lead to general registration and can lead to relevant areas of practice endorsement.
The grant opportunity will be available over four separate grant rounds (with one opening each financial year) and will provide up to $61,408,297.50 (GST inclusive) over four years (2023-24 to 2026-27).
Round 3 (of this grant opportunity) will provide up to $16,052,300 (GST inclusive) in 2025-26 to higher education providers to support additional postgraduate psychology places in courses which lead to general registration and areas of practice endorsement.
The purpose of this grant opportunity is to create a scalable, sustainable measure to build capacity within higher education providers to grow the postgraduate qualified psychology workforce to alleviate pressure in the system.

- have an Australian Business Number (ABN)
- be registered for the purposes of GST
- have an account with an Australian financial institution
- be an Australian higher education provider registered with TEQSA and approved to offer Commonwealth Supported Places and offer postgraduate psychology courses which lead to general registration and can lead to the specified areas of practice endorsement (clinical neuropsychology, clinical psychology, community psychology, counselling psychology, health psychology, educational and developmental psychology, forensic psychology, organisational psychology, sport and exercise psychology)
- be one of the listed entity types (including Indigenous Corporation, company, corporate Commonwealth entity, non-corporate Commonwealth statutory authority, corporate state or territory entity, non-corporate state or territory entity, non-corporate state or territory statutory authority, local government, cooperative, incorporated association, other incorporated entity, statutory entity, partnership, unincorporated association)
- provide a completed Data Summary (template on GrantConnect) signed by an authorised officer demonstrating enrolled postgraduate psychology places by course in 2025 and 2026, that the 2026 cohort meets an 8.7% growth rate compared with 2025, and that at least one of the new postgraduate psychology places in 2026 is a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP)
- and include a letter of endorsement signed by the Vice Chancellor of the organisation
