Low-interest loans for primary producers impacted by North QLD monsoon trough, associated Cyclone Koji and severe weather
Concessional low-interest loans administered by QRIDA to assist Queensland primary producers whose assets were significantly damaged by the North Queensland Monsoon Trough, associated Cyclone Koji and severe weather commencing 24 December 2025.
Loans support re-establishing normal primary production operations, including repair/replacement of plant, equipment and buildings, livestock replacement and meeting carry-on requirements.
To be eligible, you must:
- have sustained substantial damage to buildings, plant, equipment or stock as a result of the disaster
- be a primary producer in Queensland
- have a property located in a 'defined disaster area' (listed local government areas for the Queensland Monsoon Trough, Cyclone Koji and Severe Weather, commencing 24 December 2025)
- provide adequate security for the loan
- be able to demonstrate the ongoing viability of the primary production enterprise
- have taken reasonable precautions to avoid loss or damage from a disaster, such as having adequate insurance
Primary producer is defined explicitly to include:
- a sole trader who spends the majority of their labour on, and derives the majority of their income from a primary production enterprise
- or in relation to a partnership, company or trust that carries on a primary production enterprise, the partners, shareholders or beneficiaries who spend the majority of their labour on, and derive the majority of their income from, the primary production enterprise
The definition has been expanded to include businesses that support primary production (examples given: shearing, mustering, silage baling, farm irrigation services, timber plantation maintenance services).
Primary producers significantly affected but not located in a defined disaster area may apply as an individually disaster-stricken enterprise (IDSP) via the Department of Primary Industries.
