Funding for games practitioners

Grants to support Australian independent gamemakers to create or complete a micro-scale digital game, including funding for prototype creation, completion and release, and to support creative experimentation.

All applicants and projects must meet the eligibility criteria under Screen Australia’s Terms of Trade.

Applicant Eligibility: This program is open to individuals and companies.

An individual applicant must be an Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident (holding a permanent visa).

An applicant company must be an incorporated company carrying on business in Australia, with its central management and control in Australia.

Project Eligibility: Funding is available to support original, new projects with budgets of up to $500,000 at the time of applying, made by Australian independent gamemakers.

Screen Australia can only fund Australian projects: the project must be under the key creative control of Australian citizens or permanent residents and be predominantly developed in Australia.

Projects must be for a digital game platform (including but not limited to PC, mobile, consoles, and VR).

Screen Australia requires a minimum level of interactivity for a project to be considered a game.

Applicants or applicant companies may only submit one application per round across both the Games Production Fund and the Emerging Gamemakers Fund.

After two unsuccessful applications to a specific program, a project is no longer eligible for that program.

Unsuccessful applicants may re-submit once with the same project to a future funding round provided application materials have undergone meaningful updates since the last submission.
