One-off payment for individuals affected by a major disaster
The Disaster Recovery Payment (DRP) is a one-off, non-means tested payment available to assist individuals who have been adversely affected by a major disaster either in Australia or overseas.
It provides financial help where people are seriously injured, have an immediate family member who died or is missing, have their principal place of residence destroyed or significantly damaged, or are the principal carer of a dependent child who has experienced any of the above.
To be eligible, you must:
- be at least 16 years of age
- be an Australian resident or the holder of an eligible visa
- have been adversely affected by a major disaster
People are considered adversely affected if, as a direct result of the disaster, they:
- are seriously injured
- have an immediate family member who died or is missing
- have their principal place of residence destroyed or significantly damaged as a result of the natural disaster
- or are the principal carer of a dependent child who has experienced any of the above
