GO8497: Remote Vocational Training Scheme (RVTS)

Overview

The purpose of the Remote Vocational Training Scheme (RVTS) grant is to provide funding to RVTS Ltd. for the delivery of General Practitioner (GP) and Rural Generalist (RG) fellowship education and training from the beginning of the 2027 training year through to the end of the 2030 training year.

The RVTS provides vocational training for doctors to achieve fellowship with the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM), the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) or both Colleges.

The RVTS is a three- or four-year training program (depending on fellowship endpoint) and focuses on facilitating structured distance education and supervision, including workforce retention in rural, remote and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

The program supports doctors to complete specialist training under a place-based model through either a Remote or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health pathway.

Through its workforce retention model the program supports GP and RG workforce stability and continuity of care in high need communities.

Training is provided across two pathways: Remote Pathway: Doctors working in rural and remote regions MM 4-7 as classified by the Modified Monash Model (MMM).

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Pathway: Doctors working in Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHS) and Aboriginal Medical Services (AMS) within MM 2-7 locations.
