GO8268: Advancing Australia's National Interests in Antarctica

The purpose of the Advancing Australia’s National Interests in Antarctica grant opportunity is to support the Australian Centre for Excellence in Antarctic Science (ACEAS) for two years to finalise and deliver data sets and publication outputs from field operations previously funded under the ARC Special Research Initiative in Excellence in Antarctic Science.

The objectives of the grant are to: advance Australia’s national interests in Antarctica through delivery of priority science secure Antarctic science capability and the next generation of researchers strengthen collaboration across the Australian Antarctic science community and with DCCEEW enhance Australia’s leadership and excellence in Antarctic science.

The intended outcomes of the grant are: advancement of Australia’s national interests in Antarctica through delivery of the Australian Antarctic Science Decadal Strategy employment of, and funding certainty for, experts, students and early career researchers to strengthen Antarctic science capability in Australia demonstrated leadership of Australia in Antarctic science by continuing collaboration through ACEAS across participating universities published peer-reviewed manuscripts, lodgement of datasets with the Australian Antarctic Data Centre, and communication of key outcomes, particularly from the Denman Glacier terrestrial and marine campaigns and science supported by the Australian Antarctic Program.

The University of Tasmania (ABN 30 764 374 782) will be the sole applicant, acting on behalf of the ACEAS consortium, with provisions for subcontracting to partner organisations.

Applicants must provide evidence from their board (or CEO or equivalent if no board) that the project is supported and that the organisation can complete the project and meet costs not covered by grant funding.

Applicants must declare willingness to make research data and reports publicly available and provide them to the Australian Government and any nominated third party; agree to share data in accordance with the protocol for Required Data and allow the Commonwealth to provide and make the Required Data publicly available; declare they will run the project on behalf of the ACEAS consortium as reflected in existing ACEAS Participating Organisation Agreements; and provide all mandatory attachments.

The project must be aimed at finalising, interpreting, synthesising, publishing and communicating results from completed field activities (with emphasis on Denman campaigns and ACEAS-supported AAS projects).

All eligibility criteria are mandatory and cannot be waived.
