GO5667: Australian Apprenticeships Incentive System Program Guidelines
The Australian Apprenticeships Incentive System (Incentives System) aims to build a more inclusive and sustainable economy, ensuring Australians receive quality training while in paid employment.
It will also contribute to simplifying and streamlining support for Australian Apprentices.
The Incentives System contains a range of employer incentives and personal benefit payments to Australian Apprentices.
The Incentives System will be delivered by Australian Apprenticeship Support Network (AASN) providers.
Claims and payments associated with the program will be supported by the new Apprenticeship Data Management System (ADMS).
Primary eligibility (general):
- the Australian Apprentice must commence or recommence an Australian Apprenticeship under a new Training Contract with a new employer on or after 2022-07-01 (or recommence with same employer after a break greater than six months)
- citizenship/residency at date of commencement must be an Australian citizen, a foreign national with permanent residency, or a New Zealand passport holder with at least six months' residence in Australia
- the apprenticeship must be a formal Australian Apprenticeship approved by the relevant State/Territory Training Authority with a signed Training Plan, and include accredited training with both paid work and structured off-the-job training
Payments linked to the Australian Apprenticeship Priority List require the occupation and qualification on the Training Contract to be on Appendix A Priority List as published at the time of commencement.
Standard claim requirements include meeting the waiting period (the greater of three calendar months from commencement or the State/Territory probationary period), meeting Effect dates, lodging claims in the Apprenticeships Data Management System within the specified time limits (generally 12 months from Effect date; some payments have 3-month limits), and providing required documentary evidence (e.g. signed Training Plan, wage evidence, and specific forms for disability assistance).
Specific payments have additional eligibility rules (for example:
- Hiring Incentive excludes Existing Workers
- Priority Wage Subsidy requires Single Touch Payroll reporting)
