Financial incentives for businesses to hire new staff

Wage subsidies provide financial incentives to employers to hire and retain eligible participants in ongoing and sustainable positions.

Subsidies of up to $10,000 may be available to help with some of the initial costs of bringing on a new employee and to help ensure the success of their employment.

To be eligible to access a wage subsidy, an organisation must: have a valid Australian Business Number (ABN), and have an account registered with Workforce Australia Online for Businesses (verified with myID and Relationship Authorisation Manager).

Wage subsidies are for new ongoing employment positions, which can be full time, part time, casual, traineeship or apprenticeship positions.

These wage subsidies are available through Workforce Australia employment services providers, Transition to Work providers and Parent Pathways providers.

If a provider offers a wage subsidy, they will send a wage subsidy agreement to approve.

You must approve this agreement using your Workforce Australia Online for Businesses account within 28 days of your new employee commencing work.

Other eligibility criteria will apply and providers will assess whether a wage subsidy is the best assistance for the situation.
