Funding for QLD taxi licence service holders to acquire a new wheelchair accessible taxi

Overview

The Wheelchair Accessible Taxi Grant Scheme provides funding to Queensland taxi service licence holders or lessees to acquire a new wheelchair accessible taxi and to purchase and install eligible modifications.

Assistance covers up to 50% of the cost (applicant co-contribution required) and is administered by QRIDA on behalf of the Department of Transport and Main Roads.

Grants support replacing aging or written-off vehicles and require new (not reused) wheelchair-accessibility devices.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, you must be the holder or lessee of a taxi service licence and be registered for goods and services tax (GST).

Applicants must purchase a new wheelchair accessible taxi and any wheelchair-accessibility devices must be purchased new.

Assistance amounts are calculated on invoice amounts excluding GST.

Applicants are required to start providing taxi services using the new wheelchair accessible taxi within three months after receiving a grant (a longer period may be approved by QRIDA if required).

If the new wheelchair accessible taxi is not used to provide taxi services for a period of at least three years, recipients will be required to repay assistance received on a pro-rata basis.

Vehicles must be provided under a taxi service licence with a wheelchair accessible taxi condition that you either own or lease.
