Funding to promote development and implementation of innovative clinical trials

Overview

Provides grants to promote the development and implementation of adaptive platform and registry-based clinical trial methodologies to support world-class health and medical research in areas of unmet medical need.

Funding is delivered across three streams to establish, expand or evaluate innovative trial designs and embed registry-based randomised controlled trials into clinical registries.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligible organisations that can support innovative clinical trial projects to improve health benefits for Australians.

Applications are made to one of three streams only (applicants may submit more than one application to different streams).

Stream 1 (Incubator and Targeted Call for Research) proposals must focus on one of the specified topics (Topic A:

  • inception projects to demonstrate feasibility of a national adaptive platform trial
  • Topic B: establishing a new national adaptive platform trial including setup and initial launch domains
  • Topic C: expanding an existing adaptive platform trial by adding new domains)

Stream 2 (Targeted Call for Research) funds registry-based randomised controlled trials embedded in a pre-existing clinical registry.

Stream 3 (Targeted Call for Research) funds projects to generate evidence of the efficiency and cost effectiveness of innovative trial designs (Topic A:

  • adaptive platform trials
  • Topic B: registry-based randomised controlled trials)

To be considered for funding under this opportunity, 20% or more of all Chief Investigators must be early to mid-career researchers.
