GO8082: Certificate of Postgraduate Training in Clinical Psychiatry (CPTP) - Scholarships (2026-29)

Overview

The purpose of this grant opportunity is to engage one organisation, the Royal Australian and New Zealand College for Psychiatrists (RANZCP) to administer scholarships that support 50 GPs and other relevant medical professionals to undertake the recently established Certificate of Postgraduate Training in Clinical Psychiatry (CPTP) each year for four years.These 200 scholarships will broaden the skillset of medical practitioners to confidently deliver mental health services in a range of health care settings.

The objectives of the grant opportunity are to: • Enhance capacity among primary care providers to identify and manage psychiatric conditions, leading to improved mental health outcomes. • Foster management of mental health conditions within primary care settings to improve access to mental health services. • Support career development opportunities leading to greater retention of skilled mental health professionals nationally, to better meet community need.

The intended outcomes of the grant opportunity are: • Growth in mental health workforce and improved access to mental health care across Australia, including rural and remote areas, leading to reduced workforce pressure and better service delivery. • Improved collaboration between primary care and specialist mental health services, supporting a more integrated and responsive healthcare system. • Improved career development opportunities supporting greater retention of skilled professionals in rural and remote areas.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible you must be the listed organisation and have received an invitation to apply from the department.

The eligible organisation is the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) (ABN 68 000 439 047).

If successful, relevant personnel working on the grant activity must maintain Working with Vulnerable People registration (or equivalent) and a Working with Children check.

Applicants must comply with applicable legislation/policies such as the Multicultural Access and Equity Policy, Commonwealth Child Safe Framework and Workplace Gender Equality Act 2012 reporting requirements as outlined in the grant agreement.
