Funding for projects to improve water quality in the Great Barrier Reef

The Reefwise Wetlands Program provides grant funding for rehabilitation, restoration and/or modification of large-scale coastal wetland and riparian systems, or reinstatement of previous wetlands, to improve water quality and strengthen the resilience of the Great Barrier Reef.

Projects should maximise water quality improvements while measuring and optimising identified co-benefits, and use coastal wetland and riparian systems to process priority pollutants including dissolved inorganic nitrogen, pesticides and/or fine sediment.

Applicants undertaking projects within the Great Barrier Reef Coast Marine Park, the Great Barrier Reef Natural Resources Management regions, or habitats/ecosystems within the Great Barrier Reef Catchments.

Projects will rehabilitate, restore and/or modify large scale Reef wetland and riparian systems or reinstate wetlands in areas that were previous wetlands, to maximise water quality improvements while measuring and optimising identified co-benefits.

Project activities will contribute to at least one Reef Trust Outcome (Reef Trust Outcome 1, Reef Trust Outcome 2, or Reef Trust Outcome 3) and will support progress towards the Reef 2050 Water Quality Improvement Plan, the Reef Wetlands Strategy and the Reef 2050 Plan.
