Design technologies carbon capture, use and storage assets and shared hub infrastructure

Overview

This opportunity supports innovative advancements in carbon capture, use and storage (CCUS) technologies and helps identify and develop viable CO2 storage sites.

It provides grant funding for development, demonstration, feasibility and commercialisation activities across CCUS technology, CO2 utilisation and CO2 storage site assessment.

Eligibility Criteria

You can apply if you meet the eligibility criteria: you are an eligible entity, have an eligible project, and have eligible expenditure.

To be eligible you must:

  • have an Australian business number (ABN)
  • be non-tax-exempt
  • be registered for the goods and services tax (GST)

You must also be one of the following:

  • an entity incorporated in Australia and a trading corporation
  • a foreign corporation
  • an incorporated trustee on behalf of a trust where the trustee is also a trading, financial or foreign corporation
  • an Australian State/Territory Government agency or body
  • or an authority of the Commonwealth such as the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation

If you are a trading corporation, your trading activities must form a sufficiently significant proportion of the corporation’s overall activities as to merit it being described as a trading or financial corporation; or are a substantial and not merely peripheral activity of the corporation.

Project requirements:

  • you must complete your project by 2031-04-30
  • your project must be located in Australia
  • your application must show a minimum of $2,000,000 in eligible project expenditure

Your project’s focus area must aim to:

  • research, develop or commercialise carbon capture and storage technologies
  • research, develop or commercialise CO2 utilisation technologies
  • or complete feasibility and geological studies into new potential CO2 storage locations

Only one application can be submitted per applicant for each focus area.

Your application must also show evidence from your board (or chief executive officer or equivalent if there is no board) that the project is supported, the project can be completed and you can meet project costs not covered by the grant; how you will provide your share of project costs, such as an accountant declaration that confirms you can fund your share of the project costs, including any ineligible expenditure; and if you are a Foreign Corporation that you and/or your sub-contractors are not on the DFAT Consolidated List.
