Funding for commercial fisheries and aquaculture licence holders impacted by the algal bloom
Grants to support South Australian commercial fisheries and aquaculture licence holders materially impacted by the algal bloom to meet fixed costs, overheads and support employee wages while operations are disrupted.
To be eligible applicants must:
- be a legal entity established in Australia (a sole trader, company, partnership or trustee of a trust; incorporated entities must be incorporated in Australia)
- be a South Australian commercial fisheries or aquaculture licence holder
- hold an active Australian Business Number (ABN) as at 1 January 2025
- be registered for GST at the time applications opened (registered for GST as of 29 July 2025)
- demonstrate minimum business turnover of $75,000 in financial year 2023‑24 or 2024‑25
- have an Australia‑wide grouped payroll not greater than $10 million in 2024‑25
- derive at least 75% of business turnover directly from commercial activities under the commercial fisheries or aquaculture licence(s)
To qualify for the initial grant applicants must demonstrate business impact by one of:
- having fishing licence fees waived by the Department of Primary Industries and Regions
- a 30% or more decline in catch or harvest
- or being subject to government harvesting area restrictions or closures due to the Algal Bloom
For second and third payments applicants must demonstrate continued impact in different (non‑overlapping) consecutive three‑month periods between 1 April 2025 and 30 June 2026 and provide required evidence (BAS or validated financials, lodged tax returns or validated financials, bank statements, catch/harvest returns, Certificate of Currency for insurance, signed statement of intent to continue to operate, etc.).
