Overview
Revenue NSW will refund motor vehicle duty paid on a replacement vehicle if your original vehicle was written off in a declared natural disaster.
Additional relief measures may be available, such as more time to lodge documents, deferment of fine repayments, extended payment deadlines, waiving interest charges and payment of debts by instalments.
Eligibility Criteria
You may be eligible for a motor vehicle duty refund if:
- your vehicle was destroyed in a declared NSW Severe Weather and Flooding Event in the specified period
- you paid duty on a replacement vehicle
- and if your destroyed vehicle was comprehensively insured, your insurance did not cover the duty for a replacement vehicle
Alternate wording elsewhere on the page states eligibility where:
- you had comprehensive insurance for your written off vehicle
- your insurance does not cover the duty for a replacement vehicle
