GO8266: 2026 NHMRC-GACD: Multisectoral Approaches

Together with other Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases (GACD) Associate Members, NHMRC is inviting investigators to submit applications for implementation research maximising collaboration and coordination with sectors and in settings beyond the healthcare system to tackle chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) (as defined by the World Bank) and/or underserved populations in high-income countries (HICs).

For NHMRC funding support in HICs, research must focus on Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities.

The objective of the 2026 NHMRC-GACD grant opportunity is to fund implementation research focused on strategies leveraging opportunities provided by settings and sectors beyond the health system in LMICs and/or for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities in Australia.

While the focus is on settings outside of the healthcare system, collaboration with the relevant healthcare system(s) as part of the project is expected to facilitate effective design and knowledge mobilisation.

Applications will only be accepted from NHMRC Administering Institutions.

Research activities must take place in one or more World Bank-defined low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) and/or in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities in Australia.

The Chief Investigator A (CIA) at time of acceptance and for the duration of the grant must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or an Australian permanent resident, or hold an appropriate work visa at acceptance, and must be based in Australia for at least 80% of the funding period.

The maximum number of Chief Investigators (CIs) allowed on an application is 10.

The maximum number of Associate Investigators (AIs) that may be named is 10.

Applicants can be named as CIA (Principal Investigator) on a maximum of one application to this GACD Multisectoral Approaches funding call.

Applications must be submitted through the Administering Institution Research Administration Officer (RAO) in Sapphire and include a copy of the Stage Two GACD application (PDF) as uploaded to the GACD portal.

All CIs must complete mandatory Sapphire Profile information.

The CIA must have a valid ORCID iD in their Sapphire profile for the grant to commence.

CI and Administering Institution certifications are required prior to submission.
