GO8165: National Awareness and Inclusion Activities to support social inclusion for Autistic people

The National Autism Strategy 2025–31 is Australia’s first national framework to improve the quality of life for all Autistic people.

This grant supports Action 1.1 of the First Action Plan 2025-26 to develop and deliver initial national awareness and inclusion activities for those who work within the justice system, to ensure Autistic young people, their families, and carers who engage with the justice system are supported with a neuro-affirming approach.

The grant opportunity will fund the development and delivery of activities and resources that promote understanding and build the capability of those who work within the justice system (including police, courts, prisons, and legal professionals) to provide appropriate responses to Autistic young people they may come in contact with.

Activities and resources may include, but not be limited to: • reference guides • case studies • video modules • e-learning modules, and • an understanding autism toolkit.

To be eligible you must be one of the named organisations in Table 3 and have received an invitation to apply from the Department.

You must comply with the five statutory funding conditions under the Disability Services and Inclusion Act 2023 (including complying with the Code of Conduct, implementing and maintaining complaints and incident management systems, and not being subject to an in-force NDIS banning order for the organisation or key personnel).

Applications from consortia are acceptable provided there is a lead organisation that is one of the eligible entities and solely accountable to the Commonwealth.

If successful, personnel working on the grant must maintain Working with Children checks and Working with Vulnerable People registration (or state/territory equivalent), and meet Workplace Gender Equality Act 2012 reporting requirements where applicable.

Applicants must be able to enter into the Standard Grant Agreement and meet related legislative and policy requirements.
