GO8518: First Nations Clean Energy Projects – Pilot Grants
The First Nations Clean Energy Projects – Pilot Grants provides funding to First Nations organisations.
This program was announced as part of the implementation of the Government’s First Nations Clean Energy Strategy.
The objectives of the program are to: support up to 2 First Nations organisations to progress their clean energy projects beyond feasibility towards financial close build evidence of the factors that enable increased investment in First Nations clean energy projects share First Nations clean energy project development lessons learnt with the sector.
The intended outcome of the program is to support the economic development and self-determination of First Nations peoples through increased opportunities to lead and benefit from clean energy project developments.
There is a total of up to $10 million available for this grant program.
Grants will be from $1 million to $10 million.
The grant amount will be up to 100% of eligible expenditure.
Applicants must be a First Nations organisation that is at least 51% First Nations owned and controlled for the duration of the grant, have an ABN, and be an eligible entity type:
- a registered land council or Traditional Owner entity
- an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporation registered under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006
- a company limited by guarantee
- an incorporated trustee applying for a trust established for the benefit of First Nations peoples
- or a not-for-profit or other incorporated association or cooperative
Applicants must provide evidence of their organisation and entity type and all mandatory attachments.
The grant activity must be part of a broader clean energy project expected to have capacity greater than 1MW, be delivered in Australia, have legal land access, have authority or support from relevant Traditional Owners, and meet the program definition of a clean energy project.
Joint applications are permitted where both the lead organisation and grant activity partners are eligible.
