Funding for VIC landowners to undertake restoration projects

Overview

Funding and project support for private landholders in Victoria to undertake native vegetation restoration projects (planting native trees and shrubs) to capture carbon and create wildlife habitat.

Projects are delivered in partnership with Cassinia Environmental and may include co-funding arrangements.

Eligibility Criteria

All land must be freehold land within the state of Victoria, owned by a private individual or entity.

To be eligible, the site must:

  • have a minimum of 20-hectare woody restoration area (with preference given to larger sites)
  • have no existing obligations to restore the land (either legislated or under an existing agreement)
  • be outside the Melbourne Strategic Assessment (MSA) area
  • not be subject to compulsory acquisition or subject to a government development initiative
  • not have been illegally cleared

Landowner recruitment has commenced and the program is open for expressions of interest.

Projects are selected in rounds (selection panel meeting 3-4 times per year).

Funding Amount
Funding varies. All selected landowners will receive BushBank funding and guidance for restoration projects. Significant co-funding is required to deliver plantings; Cassinia Environmental will source co-funding from partners (including carbon markets and philanthropic biodiversity-focused partners). Projects may be eligible for co-funding via transfer of carbon rights to a project partner, or landowners may register Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) from their project for retention or sale.
