GO8133: 2026 NHMRC e-ASIA Joint Research Program funding commencing 2027

The NHMRC e-ASIA Joint Research Program supports Australian participation and collaboration in leading international research through the e-ASIA Joint Research Program (e-ASIA JRP).

The e-ASIA JRP supports international joint research projects in the East Asia region.

The e-ASIA JRP selects research projects through an open call for proposals.

Fields of cooperation are decided among the e-ASIA participating member organisations and funding is for up to three years.

The 2026 NHMRC e-ASIA Joint Research Program grant opportunity will support Australian participation and partnership in international collaborative research through the e-ASIA JRP 15th call for proposals in Health Research stream under the following topics: • Infectious disease and immunology • Advanced medical research and enabling technologies Further information on the e-ASIA JRP 15th Health Research call is available from the e-ASIA website

Applications will only be accepted from NHMRC Administering Institutions.

A project consortium must consist of at least three eligible research teams from a minimum of three e-ASIA Member Organisations (including NHMRC): an Australian research team collaborating with research teams seeking support from at least two other participating e-ASIA Member Organisations.

Support modalities can be New, In-Kind or Re-budgeting; at least one form of Member Organisation support must be New or Re-budgeting (NHMRC only offers New support).

Australian researchers must submit an application to both NHMRC and the e-ASIA JRP Secretariat; a copy of the submitted e-ASIA Common Application must be included in the NHMRC application.

The application must address the research topic in the 15th call text.

For Topic 1 (Infectious Disease and Immunology), collaborations must include a Principal Investigator from at least one of the countries of the following member organisations: Indonesia.

The CIA at acceptance and for the duration of the grant must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or Australian permanent resident, or have an appropriate work visa, and must be based in Australia for at least 80% of the funding period.

Associate Investigators (max 10) have no residency restriction but cannot draw salary from the grant.

Grants can be requested for between one and three years.

Grants are expected to start on 2027-02-01.

The provisional program allocation is up to $4.5 million and funding per grant will not exceed $750,000.
