GO7968: MRFF - EPCDRI - 2025 Childhood Mental Health Research Grant Opportunity

The Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) Emerging Priorities and Consumer-Driven Research initiative aims to enable or support research that improves patient care and translation of new discoveries, and encourage collaboration between consumers and researchers.

Funding from this Initiative will support the development of new diagnoses, treatments and cures, and the translation of new discoveries into clinical practice.

Three topics of funding are available based on the primary focus of the research or the geographic location of the organisation undertaking the majority of the research.

The objective of this grant opportunity is to: Topic A (Aim 2 of Research Plan; TCR): improving the mental health of First Nations children through research led by First Nations researchers that includes meaningful involvement of First Nations communities.

Topic B (Aim 2 of Research Plan; TCR): the organisation undertaking the majority of the research is based in any area according to the Modified Monash Model locator (MM1–7).

Topic C (Aim 2 of Research Plan; TCR): the organisation undertaking the majority of the research, the Chief Investigator A and 50% or more of all Chief Investigators, and all research participants are primarily based in a regional, rural or remote area according to the Modified Monash Model locator (MM2–7).

Applicants to this grant opportunity must propose research that addresses one of the three Topics of research.

An application may only be submitted to one of the above three Topics.

Applicants must specify the Topic to which they are applying in their application.

This grant opportunity is being administered by NHMRC on behalf of the Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing.

Lead organisation must be an MRFF Eligible Organisation approved by NHMRC.

Joint (consortia) applications encouraged but a single lead organisation is required.

Applicants must nominate a Chief Investigator A (CIA) who leads the application; a person may not be named as a Chief Investigator on more than one application to this grant opportunity.

Up to 50 Chief Investigators (CIs) may be included.

For all Topics, 50% or more of the CI team must be early to mid-career researchers (within ten years post-PhD, excluding career disruptions) and/or peer researchers.

Topic A requires Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander leadership: either CIA is Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander or 50%+ of CIs are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.

Topic B has location requirements per MM1? (Topic B allows any area according to Modified Monash Model locator MM1-7).

Topic C requires the organisation undertaking the majority of the research to be located in an MM2-7 (regional/rural/remote) area; additionally, CIA and 50%+ of CIs, and all research participants must be primarily based in MM2-7 and have been resident in MM2-7 for at least 12 months prior to submission.

CIA is generally required to be an Australian citizen or permanent resident at the time of application submission; where not, must have requisite work visa in place at time of accepting the grant.

Maximum grant period is 5 years.

Maximum funding per single grant is $5,000,000.

Applications must address all eligibility and assessment criteria and follow formatting/page limits and minimum data/certification requirements in Sapphire.
