Funding to install solar panels on eligible apartment buildings and multi-unit dwellings in NSW
Provides grant funding to support the purchase and installation of shared rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on eligible apartment buildings and other multi‑unit dwellings in NSW, to give residents access to the benefits of solar energy.
Eligible applicants (as defined under the program guidelines) must be either:
- a NSW residential owners corporation responsible for the management of a strata scheme under the Strata Schemes Management Act 2015
- or a strata managing agent as outlined in the Strata Schemes Management Act 2015, if authorised to do so by the owners corporation
The application can be made by a nominated resident, on behalf of the owners corporation, if they are authorised to do so.
The grant funds the installation of a shared rooftop solar system on an eligible multi‑unit dwelling, by an eligible applicant, within NSW.
Projects should be started as soon as possible after the Funding Deed is signed and must be completed by 30 October 2026.
All funded projects must be complete and all required documentation provided to the Department by 30 October 2026.
Stage One: applicants submit a completed Stage 1 application form (Expression of Interest).
Stage Two: eligible applicants submit a completed Stage 2 application form and supporting documentation through the Department’s Grant Management System (GMS)/OneGMS.
Supporting documentation required for Stage Two includes:
- two quotes for installation from SAA and NETCC accredited solar installers (noting preferred quote)
- an assessment of the payback period or return on investment for the proposed solar PV system calculated at the strata level
- and evidence that the owners corporation has been authorised to enter a funding agreement and accept the final quote (a letter/document signed by two different members of the owners corporation confirming a sustainability infrastructure resolution has been passed in the form required by NSW Government, that proposed solar will share energy cost savings proportionately with all residents, and that purchase and installation costs will be shared proportionately)
Applications will be assessed in a two‑stage process (eligibility check then non‑competitive suitability assessment).
